Identify the five largest cities within each country: Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice
Identify the population of the largest city: 2,240,621 Use the “rank size rule” to identify the estimated size of each of the next four largest cities (city #2 is ½ the size of city #1, city #3 is 1/3 the size of city #1, city #4 is ¼ the size of #1, city #5 is 1/5 the size of #1): Using the rank size rule... City #2 should be 1,120,310.5 City #3 should be 746,873.6 City #4 should be 560,155.2 City #5 should be 448,124.2 Identify the actual populations of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th largest cities: Compose a well-developed paragraph defending to what extent the “rank size rule” is proven valid or invalid based upon the populations of this country’s five largest cities: The cities' actual populations are... City #2 is 852,516 City #3 is 496,343 City #4 is 453,317 City #5 is 343,629 |

France's largest city by population is Paris, followed by Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, and Nice. Paris's population is 2,240,621, meaning city two's population should be 1,120,310. But Marseille's population is actually 852,512, which falls short. The gap widens by city three, which should be 746,873, but Lyon is only 496,343. It gets closer to what it should be towards the end though.
